DINING inside restaurants is allowed once again – but it can still be expensive for parents with their kids.

A family meal out costs on average £42, research by hospitality industry jobs web-site caterer.com reveals. But you don’t have to go out for a great feast. Why not have one at home with these supermarket deals?

FREEZER STEAL: Head to Nisa and Co-op stores this week, where their £5 “fill your freezer” deal is back.

Get six family favourites — Birds Eye crispy chicken two-pack, Birds Eye chicken burger four-pack, Birds Eye Alphabites 456g, Birds Eye mixed vegetables 340g, Wall’s Solero Exotic three-pack and Nestle Fab strawberry six-pack — all for just £5. That saves £7 on the recommended price.

ITALIAN FAKEAWAY: Tesco Finest pizzas are delicious and now part of a new meal deal in store.

Choose one pizza from restaurant flavours such as four cheese and balsamic red onion or ham, mushroom and mascarpone, as well as one side of a choice of sharing breads such as garlic and parsley ciabatta, for a total of £5.

These items would normally cost a total of £6.95 — so you save £1.95.

SPECIAL PRICE: Asda now has an Extra Special meal deal, with one main, one side, one dessert and drink for £10.

Its top offering, in my opinion, is the sirloin steaks, beef-dripping roasties, sticky toffee pudding and a bottle of delicious La Méridionale Rosé wine. Bought individually, these would cost a total of £16. So it’s a £6 saving and a great quality selection.

ICE DEAL: Iceland has a really great £1 value range. So while there may be no meal deal as such, you can create your own bargain feast.

Get two thin and crispy pizzas for £1 each, a litre of Coca-Cola at £1 and thin and crispy fries also £1.

Add a four-pack of its Majestic mint-choc ice creams — a fab Magnum dupe — for £1 and that is a fantastic deal for £5 all in.
