Republican party fuels false claim of stolen election as it seeks to surge back into power in November’s midterm elections

The House committee investigating the January 6 insurrection charged on Monday that Donald Trump “lit the fuse” that fueled the most violent assault on the US Capitol in more than two centuries with his false claims of electoral fraud and “big lie” that Joe Biden had stolen his victory.

But despite the meticulous arguments of the panel – and the trove of evidence it has collected showing that to be wrong – Trump’s myth of a stolen election rages on, uncontrolled in the Republican party as it seeks to surge back into power in November’s midterm elections.
