The research output of the Federal Reserve’s 12 regional banks has clearly shifted toward topics standing apart from the central bank’s core mandate of understanding what it takes to achieve its inflation and job market goals, according to the authors of a new report.

The study was written by Carola Binder, an associate professor of economics at Haverford College, and Christina Parajon Skinner, an assistant professor at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
