When it comes to early impressions of a game, like what critics do in previews, games are given the benefit of the doubt.

Previews are carried out during the game’s development and there is an acceptance that the game will undergo changes and improvements before the final release.

This is why if you read previews they are mostly positive, with most writers giving the benefit of the doubt to less enjoyable parts of the game.

It is rare for previews of a game to be wholly negative, and that is what has made the first impressions for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League so shocking.

The majority of previews for Suicide Squad have been negative, something you don’t usually see following these hands-on press events.

IGN’s Destin Legarie said: “I left the preview event less optimistic than when I came in.”

While Alan Web for VGC writes: “There’s no getting around that for Arkham fans, Suicide Squad is an entirely other beast, as stark a difference as it is being able to see the city in daylight.”

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been delayed several times, from the original release date of 2022.

An extended gameplay trailer was shown during PlayStation’s February 2023 State of Play, which led to fans voicing their concerns.

In April, it was then announced that Suicide Squad would be delayed, with a new 2024 release date.

Developer Rocksteady is best known for creating the Arkham trilogy, a highly-rated series of single-player Batman games.

However, there are rumours that the studio has been pressured into developing Suicide Squad as more of a live service game with discussions that it should contain a Battle Pass.

Following the failure of the Marvel’s Avengers live service title, Suicide Squad’s developers likely opted to dial back on the initial concept for their game.

It appears that this is the reason for the numerous delays, and fans are not confident that the final game will deliver.
