Currys is selling a portable dehumidifier that shoppers say is perfect if you’re trying to get your laundry dry quickly.

The Black + Decker BXEH60001GB Portable Dehumidifier is selling online and in stores for £47.99.

It’s light and compact so you can move it into any room you need to whilst holding a large tank that can collect water for days.

Like most dehumidifiers, it has an automatic switch-off system that will turn the gadget off as soon as its water is full.

Not only are these great for getting your washing to dry in colder weather but they are ideal for tackling any issues of excess moisture in your home.

It’s around this time of year when we start to see condensation buildup and this can lead to other problems like damp and mould.

Experts usually advise you to keep your heating on and allow a good amount of airflow in your homes with the windows open to combat this.

But that’s hardly ideal for someone who is looking to keep the energy bills low.

This one is quite a bit cheaper than most dehumidifiers you’ll find on the market as most dehumidifiers typically cost around £150 to £200 and of course you will need to pay to run them.

The cost per hour will vary depending on size but Which? estimates use a dehumidifier for one hour every day, it will cost you £28.52 a year.

This handy gadget has racked up rave reviews online.

One shopper said: “Excellent little dehumidifier. Combined with a heated area it’s a cheap and efficient way to dry washing.”

“The dehumidifier is very efficient for its size removing moisture from a small room.”

“It is small and appears to accelerate clothes drying.  It’s cheap and well built,” said another.

A third user said: “Clever little gismo! Does what it claims and it’s keeping my sun lounge mould free!”

“It was smaller than I had expected but actually it worked well for the location I wanted it for. It’s quiet and does not take much space,” said someone else.

Cheaper alternatives

Lidl has a Silentnight dehumidifier for just £44.99, these do sell out quickly so you will need to keep an eye out for this one.

Robert Dyas has a smaller Silentnight Dehumidifier for £44.99. This one is 600ml so you will need to empty out the tank more often.

Make sure to shop around for the best deal. Google Shopping is another great way to see how a product compares price-wise as well.

There is of course the option of going for a non-electric dehumidifier.

These work just like electric dehumidifiers but cost nothing to run.

Prices start from as little as £1 but they do have a limited one-time use and will need to be replaced.

You can find these small dehumidifiers in many supermarkets and hardware stores.

Asda is selling a lavender-scented one for £1.25 and shoppers say it’s “excellent”.

You should open your windows every day to let fresh air in and keep doors between rooms open.

Ensure that air continuously circulates through your home to reduce condensation so the mould cannot grow.

You should also open cupboard doors regularly to allow fresh air in to make sure there’s no mould growing inside.

Other things that can help include not leaving your clothes to dry on radiators, and always cooking with ventilation.
