CREATING a “snack station” to lay out food treats for hungry kids has become a social media craze.

Loose Women’s Stacey Solomon is among the mums using the idea, which involves organising an area in the pantry, fridge or a trolley so kids can help themselves.

Try these ideas to save cash.

TROLLEY TIPS: If you like to make the most out of space, and the option to move your snack station around, a trolley could be the answer.

I like the three-tier storage trolley at Homebase, at £25.

It comes in blush, grey or white and is far cheaper than a £54.99 option at wayfair.co.uk.

It could double up as a drinks trolley for a party, too.

Also, check the bathroom sections of furniture stores.

For example, Ikea has a £15 Hornavan bathroom trolley that’s perfect for snacks.

Saving: £29.99

PORTIONS PAY: Pop dividers, tubs or baskets in your trolley to keep things organised.

Dunelm has wicker-look plastic storage boxes starting at £3 in a range of colours but I really like Wilko’s stackable grey plastic baskets at £1.

You could also assign little ones their own tub, and once their snacks are gone, that’s it for the day.

Policing that could be tough, though!

SAVING: £2 if buying Wilko’s

FINE FILLINGS: This is where you can really make a killing on snack dupes.

By shopping at Aldi and Lidl, you can pick up cheap versions of kids’ favourite brands.

Pack of Bounty bars at Tesco? £2.

Romeo dupe bars at Aldi? 85p.

Out of wrappers and in tubs, no one will know.

Also, buying big bags of crisps or dry snacks and separating them into your own sandwich bags means they go a lot further.

Popcorn is a great one, because you can buy 500g of corn kernels for just £1.25 at Asda, as opposed to £1.09 for a 200g bag of popcorn at Lidl.

That should last ages.

SAVING: £1.15 on choc bars

JUICY SAVINGS: When the kids pour their own squash it runs out a lot more quickly, right?

Make up bottles they can grab, or fill up reusable water bottles.

One clever mum buys Robinsons’s Fruit Shoots on offer, then just refills the empty bottles with bargain squash.

Get four Fruit Shoots for £1 at Tesco or get 1.5 litres of the Honest Co-op squash for £1.

Kidly.co.uk has great £10 water bottles for children but I spied a dupe at B&M, where similar ones are just £1.99.
