CO-OP shoppers have welcomed a new change to the store’s online shopping rules – and it could save them a tidy sum.

The supermarket chain hopes to rival peers Sainsbury’s and Tesco with the new money-saving scheme.

The Co-op’s new rule for online shopping will now allow “member” prices on its website, meaning customers can now access loyalty perks and save money on everyday items. 

The perks were originally only for in-store shoppers, so online customers would have to pay full wack for their goods even though the quantities were the same. 

And the best part of the supermarket’s update is that it’s landing today (March 27), so shoppers can take advantage of it right now.

A spokesperson for the brand, said: “As a co-operative business, being a Co-op member-owner is more than just having a loyalty card, it gives members the chance to directly benefit while also having a say in how their business is run.

“In addition to delivering additional value through member prices, membership also includes personalised offers every week, gamification and access to pre-sale tickets for artists at Co-op Live via the Co-op app.”

The special prices are now available on the Co-op website and on its app, as well as on UberEats.

Member prices are across more than 300 key lines and everyday essentials, with the price benefits now available with branded and own-branded products.

Chris Conway, Co-op’s eCommerce Director, said: “Co-op membership is a different way of doing business, we are focussed on creating value for our member-owners who are at the very heart of our business.

“Growing and innovating our online channels is a fundamental part of our approach, and we are committed to providing greater benefits to those who own our business, our member-owners, with savings across an extensive range and choice of everyday essentials ordered through our own online shop.”

The supermarket heavyweight will no doubt be hoping to rival competitors Sainsbury’s and Tesco, who offer the same savings through their Clubcard and Nectar card schemes.

A spokesperson for the firm, said: “Co-op has seen the highest influx of member-owners in eight years.

“It is committed to delivering value for its members and, earlier this year, announced ambitions to substantially grow the number of members from 5 million to 8 million by 2030.”

As well as shopping direct on their site, members can also reap the same benefits on the Uber app.

Shoppers who want to join the cash-saving club can do so by heading to their site’s homepage, and entering a few details before being welcomed into the members-only club. 

This comes after shoppers welcomed that vegetables will be sold for “fantastic prices” at major food firms.

Supermarkets are set to slash the cost of veggies this week including potatoes and carrots just in time for your Easter lunch.
