Cleaning whizz transforms mouldy shower head in seconds using £3 item – and proves critics wrong

A SAVVY woman shared her life-changing shower head cleaning hack – and it’s super easy.

Stubborn limescale and mould can be a difficult chore to tackle, especially when its left to build up for too long.

While it may be tempting to throw the whole thing away and start fresh – there are more cost effective ways to get your sparkling shower head back.

Sharing her story on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, one woman uploaded a picture of her yellow and green grime covered shower.

“Recommendations to clean this shower head please,” she captioned her post.

Many were skeptical the item could be saved, with some begging her to buy “a new one”.

But, others ran to the rescue and recommended some useful products to help cut through the limescale.

“Astonish mold and mildew spray and a non metal scourer,” advised one.

Meanwhile, a professional cleaner urged her to let the shower head soak in a bowl of descaler and then rise.

Someone else suggested: “Viakal – spray on then wrap in a carrier bag for 5 minutes. When you rinse all limescale will be gone.”

A fourth said she could try putting bleach in water inside a bag and leave the shower head in it.

Another offered a different solution; putting the shower head in a container with white vinegar and giving it a good scrub.

The question sparked debate in the comment section, with many still arguing for a cheap shower head replacement.

However, others were quick to highlight forking out cash on a new appliance may not be an option, especially with cost of living continuing to bite.

“Really no need to buy a new one. Landfill is full of items like this that only needed a clean,” said one.

“Amazed at the amount of people saying buy new when there’s no need. People just need to know how to clean things properly,” they added.

And, the original poster decided to take this advice and gave the shower head a proper clean.

She revealed a sparkling new shower and wrote: “Thank you all for your comments from those that chose to help.

“I used Cilit Bang as that what was in my cupboard.”

Cilit Bang is just £3.00 at Poundland, definitely making this a cheaper option than buying a whole new shower head.

Simply turn the nozzle to On and spray the foam onto a surface you wish to clean.

It only needs a few seconds to work its magic before being wiped off.

For tougher stains it can be left on for five minutes and then rubbed off with a scourer.

This comes as shoppers are racing to get their hands on a 35p item that removes window mould “in one hour”.

Window sills can be problem areas due to higher levels of condensation as temperatures drop and pesky leaks around seals – but this hack could help.

The stubborn black stuff can be a nightmare to clean – and if left untreated can even become a health hazard.

One cleaning expert also recommended white vinegar as an effective solution because it contains something called acetic acid.

This is a natural and non-toxic alternative to strong chemicals found in bleach.

Tesco sells the white vinegar at just 0.35p for a 568ml bottle – and it can be used for a range of cleaning purposes.

Mrs Hinch fans also swear by the miracle product to get rid of smudges and dirt on glass windows.

One cleaning whizz wrote: “Vinegar in a bowl of hot water, use this to clean the window, then wipe dry with kitchen paper.”

She explained the mixture should be half warm water and half white vinegar.

The Mrs Hinch fan added that she uses two Minky green glass cloths – one for the vinegar solution and one dry one to wipe the windows down.

It was also revealed that distilled vinegar can be used to get rid of mould around the seals and drawers of your washing machine.

Meanwhile, John Cutts, a glass expert at MeandMyGlass.co.uk, suggested another helpful product to tackle mould.

“Mould develops when there is excess moisture in the air which is why investing in a dehumidifier can help eliminate the problem,” he explained.

“Having them placed on a windowsill can effectively absorb the moisture and prevent the spread from escalating.”
