CHOCOLATES have come with a bitter taste recently as prices have risen 3.9 per cent.
But it’s still affordable to get a little treat, by saving on own-brand alternatives.

THE taste and smell of Dairy Milk in this best-selling fruit and nut bar is instantly recognisable.
It contains 17 per cent raisins (labelled “dried grapes” on the packaging) and seven per cent almonds, which are big. Both are evenly distributed but the bar has an odd, bendy texture.

Generous contents (17 per cent raisins and seven per cent almonds) spread evenly across the bar.
The chocolate has a milky smell and creamy appearance but is quite sweet. The bar melted quickly, so you might need to keep it in the fridge.

THE Swiss-style creamy milk chocolate contains 12 per cent raisins, six per cent almonds and additional hazelnuts.
Extremely nutty and utterly delicious, this isn’t a bar to share with the kids on the sofa – treat yourself by savouring it a few squares at a time.
But it loses points for the high price tag.

ANOTHER bar bigger and cheaper than the market leader.
With 18 per cent raisins and 11 per cent almonds, you’ll find a good amount of nutty chunks in most bites.
The chocolate is milky, with a slight vanilla taste, and not as sweet as Dairy Milk, which I preferred. Nice texture though.

HALF the size of the biggest bars and made from dark chocolate for a more intense taste with less sweetness.
Excellent fruit and nut ratio of 14 per cent raisins and nine per cent almonds with a slight hint of vanilla.
A very nice chocolate bar at a guilt-free price.

The almonds did seem to mostly be distributed all on one side but that didn’t spoil my eating enjoyment at all.
