TESCO, Asda and Sainsbury’s have stopped selling a Ladybird’s children’s book over fears small kids could choke on it.

Penguin, which publishes the Ladybird range of books, issued an urgent recall notice this week after discovering a manufacturing fault.

Small parts of the foil lamination on the cover of the book can be pulled off, causing a choking hazard for young children.

If you have a copy of Hey Duggee: Duggee and the Dinosaurs you should take it away from small children immediately and return it to the shop where you bought it.

Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury’s have confirmed that you can get a full refund in store, and you don’t have to provide a receipt.

Your product recall rights

PRODUCT recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.

As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.

But it’s often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.

If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.

When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you – the customer – to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don’t there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.

If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.

They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.

In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full refund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.

You should not be charged for any recall work – such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item.

The book had been on sale for around £4 and has an ISBN number of 9781405948630.

Each supermarket has an online store locator to find your nearest branch.

You can find Asda’s list here, Sainsbury’s store details here and search for Tesco sites here.

If you can’t get to a store or if you need more information you can contact Ladybird’s customer services at [email protected].

Penguin said the safety of its readers is its top priority and apologised for any inconvenience caused.

This week Tesco recalled baby food over fears it contains bits of plastic that could harm tots.

Cat food sold at Sainsbury’s and Pets at Home has also been recalled due to concerns it could cause serious illness in pets.

Last month, Next recalled girls’ nightdresses over fears they are a fire risk.
