EASTER is just around the corner and we’ve rounded up the cheapest supermarket to buy hot cross buns at this week.

They’re a staple of the Easter period and lead up to Spring.

And if you’re on the hunt for some hot cross buns this season, then you’ll be wanting to find the best bargain.

We compared hot cross bun prices at supermarkets.

One didn’t surprise us in terms of cost overall.

However, if you work out how much each bun costs individually, another supermarket, which was one of the most expensive in total, came out on top – we explain everything below.

Remember to factor in delivery costs if you’re ordering a food shop to your home, and use supermarket store locators online to find your closest branch.

And if you’re planning on buying stuff in store, don’t forget to make note of opening hours over Easter as many supermarkets have changed their usual times.

As always, don’t buy anything you don’t need just because it’s cheap – you’re still spending extra money if you do.

You can still check around other stores if you want to be sure of a bargain – there may be better deals elsewhere we haven’t seen.

Prices can also vary day to day and may change in the run-up to Easter.

You can compare prices on websites like Google Shopping and Trolley.co.uk – which compares the prices of 130,000 products across 14 major supermarkets.

The Latest Deals app also lets you search items and lets you compare prices at several supermarkets to see where it’s cheaper.

Here’s how prices of hot cross buns compare at all major supermarkets and high street shops this week.

Aldi – 65p

You might have been expecting this but Aldi was the cheapest supermarket for hot cross buns.

The Everyday Essentials Hot Cross Buns are going for just 65p at the time of writing for a four-pack – at 16.25p per bun.

But in terms of value for money, another supermarket was selling more hot cross buns for pretty much the same (see below).

They’re currently in stock online but do be aware that stock can vary from store to store.

You can find your nearest Aldi by heading to the website and searching for the store locator.

Asda – 99p

Asda is offering shoppers the chance to get a six-pack of hot cross buns for 99p.

While they’re more expensive than Aldi’s, 99p would equal to 16.5p per bun – pretty much the same.

So if you think six would be a better number, you should probably go for these ones.

They are on special offer, so you may need to be quick.

They weren’t in stock online at the time of writing though so do check at your local Asda instead.

Lidl – 99p

Discount supermarket Lidl is selling six hot cross buns for 99p.

Individually, it would cost you 16.5p per bun – this is one of the cheapest we’ve seen in terms of cost and what you get.

They’re literally a fraction behind Asda and Aldi.

You can’t order online at Lidl so do check at your nearest one for the product.

Of course, stock may vary from store to store, and so can price.

Co-op – £1.40

Co-op is selling six hot cross buns for £1.40, which is one of the most expensive packs we’ve seen.

Individually though that’s the same as Sainsbury’s for how much it costs per bun – 23p.

However, if you’re clever about it, you could actually spend the same as Aldi, Lidl and Asda.

That’s because shoppers can get their hands on two packs for £2, saving them 40p.

That would work out at just 16p per bun – the same as the three supermarkets’ buns.

Of course, this deal may end soon and might not be available in store.

Tesco – 85p

That works out at 21p per bun.

The item is out of stock online but it’s worth heading down to your local Tesco to see if you can get them there.

If you’re a Clubcard user, the supermarket is offering shoppers the chance to get two packs for £1.

Sainsbury’s – £1.10

That works out at 23p per bun.

They’re currently in stock online but do check your local Sainsbury’s as well.

They’re down from £1.40 at the time of writing, so bear in mind that the offer might not be available in store or online if you do go to place an order.

Morrisons – £1.15

If you’re a fan of frozen supermarket Iceland, then it’s selling four hot cross buns for £1 – 25p per bun.

You can order online with Iceland and they’re currently in stock.

If you do live near a store though you may want to check there, just remember that stock will vary.

Waitrose is selling the most expensive hot cross buns from what we could find – at £1.85.

That’s 46p per bun for a pack of four.

However, it is offering shoppers the chance to buy two and get the second half price.

If you did that, it’d cost you £2.77 for eight, or 34p per bun – still the most expensive.
