TORONTO—Workers trapped for more than two days at a nickel-and-copper mine near Sudbury, Ontario, climbed to safety after scaling a series of ladders covering a distance of roughly 4,000 feet.
By Tuesday afternoon, 33 workers had reached the surface and the remaining six workers were expected to emerge by the end of the day, said a spokesman for Vale SA, the Brazilian company that owns the Totten Mine, located west of the town of Sudbury in northern Ontario.
