A MIND-BOGGLING optical illusion that plays tricks on your mind has gone viral on social media.

Optical illusions often use shapes and angles to confuse the human brain – and one TikTok user with the handle @TaylorNikolai displayed how.

In the 9-second video, Taylor showed a black-and-white image of long and narrow letters that contained a ‘secret message.’

At first glance, the message appears illegible, but Taylor promised his viewers that they actually can read it.

The trick is to close one eye and tilt your phone so you’re looking at the charging hole, according to the content creator.

Once a user has done that, they can clearly see the words: “You’re doing great, I’m glad you exist.”

“Send a secret message to someone who needs to hear it,” Taylor concluded in the video.

What are TikTok users saying?

Since going live less than a day ago, the video has garnered tens of thousands of likes on TikTok.

Thousands of users have also left comments under the post to share their thoughts on the optical illusion.

“Thank you! I wish the same to you,” one user commented.

“OMG, nice job,” a second person remarked, adding a single ‘shocked-face’ emoji to their statement.

“Wow, this actually worked,” a third TikTok user chimed in.

How does this optical illusion work?

In this optical illusion, the text is designed in a way that our brains cannot generally perceive.

Both angles and perception play a big role so that when we tilt our phones, we can make sense of the elongated letters.

At first glance, the letters just look like long lines with curves, but after tilting our devices, the lines become shorter.

This creates an impression of depth that lets our brains better identify, or perceive the letters.
