What were Calippo Shots?

Calippo Shots were a British favourite before they were discontinued.

The ice cream was made up of lemon and strawberry balls of ice in a shaker style container.

They could be summed up as miniature versions of the classic Calippo ice lolly.

This was a summer staple but you won’t find it in any shops anymore.

Why and when were Calippo Shots discontinued?

It’s reported online that Calippo Shots were discontinued in 2020 although it feels a lot longer ago.

No reason has been given as to why we can’t find them on our shelves any more.

One person was so devastated that the ice cream had been discontinued that they created a government petition 2022 – which was ultimately rejected.

They called on them-Prime Minister Liz Truss to intervene and bring Calippo Shots back.

Do they still make Solero shots?

The bad news is that Solero shots have also been discontinued.

Solero shots were the same concept as Calippo Shots – being small pieces of flavoured ice in a plastic resealable container.

The only difference is that Solero shots were a citrus lemon and lime flavour compared to strawberry and lemon.

Solero shots were discontinued in 2007 and haven’t been seen on our shelves since.

Despite not being around for almost two decades, it seems that people still haven’t forgotten about the product.

Another petition was created with the user writing: “If you around in the 00’s, then Solero Shots – the free-flowing citrus-flavour ice spheres in re-sealable cartons, probably made your British summers a hell of lot better.

“Too hot? Solero Shots. Thirsty? Solero Shots. Bored? Solero Shots.

“They went AWOL in 2007 and ever since we’ve had to put up with sticky iced treats that melt over your hand and they’re just not cutting it anymore.

“Summer is back and every time I’m sat at my desk and another bead of sweat falls off my dripping forehead, I think about Solero Shots.

“I can’t be alone in my desperate nostalgia. Let’s get these signatures going and show Unilever and Walls that we want our favourite iced treat back.”
