The bosses of pollster group YouGov scooped a £9 million payday last year.

Then-chief executive Stephan Shakespeare made £4.7 million in the year to July, up from £540,000 previously.

Shakespeare, who co-founded YouGov with former Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi in 2000, stepped back from running the company on a day-to-day basis in August and is now chairman.

He has been replaced by Steve Hatch, who joined from Facebook-owner Meta.

The majority of Shakespeare’s bumper package came from a long-term bonus worth £4.2 million.
