BT and Yahoo down – what’s happened?

According to online outage tracker Down Detector, problems began at around 8am on Friday morning.

That’s just as Brits were getting to work, causing chaos for businesses across the country.

The BT Mail issues were strictly limited to the UK, but Yahoo Mail problems appeared to be more widespread.

Thousands of users logged virtual complaints about problems with both services.

BT and Yahoo down – what are users saying?

Angry customers flocked online to moan about the outage.

“Email down again. Sick and tired of BT email problems,” wrote one.

“Now it’s down or slow or sending error messages. Not good enough – especially when so many of us are working from home.”

Another said: “BT email down again. For a communications company, they truly suck.”

And one Yahoo user moaned: “Bloody awful service.”

BT and Yahoo outage – official response?

BT’s service status page indicated that there were issues with broadband and email in some parts of the UK.

In a statement sent to The Sun, BT said: “Some customers are experiencing problems trying to use their BT email, and we’re working quickly to resolve this.

“BT Broadband services are not affected. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience caused.”

The problem was fixed just after 10am. In a follow-up statement, BT said: “Earlier this morning some customers experienced problems using their BT email service.

“This issue was resolved within a few hours and normal service has been restored quickly.

“We want to apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused.”
