Treasures including jewellery and gems kept in a storeroom were found to be missing, stolen or damaged, the London museum said

The British Museum has sacked a member of staff and launched an independent review of security after it found items from its collection to be missing.

It said items including gold jewellery and gems of semi-precious stones and glass dating from 15th century BC to 19th century AD were missing, stolen or damaged.
