BRITAIN’s most expensive cup of tea costs an eye-watering £7 a cup with some disgruntled customers slamming it as “disappointing”.

The beverage is one of a selection of “teas and infusions” available at The Colony Grill Room in The Beaumont Hotel in London.

The selection at the swanky Mayfair establishment are all priced at £7 a pop and include British classics like Earl Grey.

While it is made clear on the menu that coffee options, such as an Americano, are available in a pot, you’d certainly hope that the tea would come in one by default for that price, but it’s not specified.

For context, a packet of 40 Earl Grey teabags will set you back just £2.80 in Asda.

It means that a cup of tea at The Colony Grill Room is 700 times more expensive than an Asda cuppa, coming in at just 7p.

This cup of tea isn’t the only expensive beverage on The Colony Grill Room’s menu.

Even an espresso will set you back £5, or £7 for a large.

You can also get your hands on a cup of Earl Grey for a marginally cheaper £6.25 a cup in Harrods.

But while the price of tea at The Colony Grill Room might be eye-popping, it’s impressed visitors with its British and grill cuisines on TripAdvisor where it has an average rating of 4.5 stars.

A second user added: “Food excellent, staff attentive, knowledgable and helpful. Seating comfortable, ambience relaxed and music not too loud. A delightful Sunday lunch. Thank you.”

But not everyone was wowed over by the experience.

Another visitor wrote: “20 minutes for the coffee to arrive, we had to chases everything on the order, charged for drinks we didn’t have and then an £80 bill for the three of us!” [sic]

Reviewing the tea specifically, one visitor was “disappointed” by the selection on offer, but still gave the restaurant five stars overall.

Much of this was due to the “Impeccable” and “welcoming” service.

They wrote: “Popped here for a late night tea.

“The service was impeccable, the staff always do their utmost to make you feel welcome and accommodate your every whim.

“Little dissapointed by the limited selection of teas on the menu however everything else surpassed my expectations.

“I have been here for a round of drinks on a previous occasion and it had been a delight in every sense.”

The Colony Grill Room have been contacted for comment.
