Britain continued to be heavily reliant on Russian coal after Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, according to new figures.
The Government pledged to end all imports from the country six months ago.

But official figures show Russian coal accounted for 19 per cent of the UK’s imports from April to June. That means around 266,000 tons came from Russia.
The UK intends to cease imports of Russian coal and oil by the end of 2022.
Over summer, the UK imported no oil or gas from Russia for the first time on record.
Total coal imports rose to 1.4million tons – 44 per cent higher than during the same period last year, as coal helped boost electricity supplies.
The US was the largest supplier, accounting for 54 per cent of imports.
MPs called for a ban on Russian coal in Britain earlier this year and large steel makers, including Tata and British Steel, halted its use.
