PM retains support of most colleagues but badly weakened after result

Boris Johnson has won the no-confidence vote, with a majority of Tory MPs supporting his leadership, but he suffered a larger than expected rebellion.

The prime minister retained the support of most of his colleagues after promising them tax cuts in a speech on the economy next week.
