If all goes according to the lockdown roadmap plan, we’ll soon be able to have friends and family round for a weekend drink or meal in the garden.

A log burner or fire pit is a great way to add something new to the garden and keep warm whilst you’re wrapped up outside.

They’re a novel way to keep the kids entertained with roasting marshmallows or to simply enjoy wrapping up in a blanket and chatting together on a chilly evening.

What do you need to know before buying a fire pit or chiminea?

Firstly, sizes can vary, so do measure your location site and storage space carefully before buying.

To avoid accidents, your fire pit or chiminea must be situated on a solid, non-flammable base. That means you cannot use it on wooden decking.

Choosing a fire pit with foldable legs and a removable grate will also help to make storage and cleaning easier.

Something else to consider is that you’ll want it to look good during the day when there’s not a fire roaring in them and throw out lots of heat in the evening when there is.

You cann’t buy online at B&M, but you can buy this range in store whilst stocks last.

B&M aren’t the only retailer with some fiery offers on them, with plenty of high street shops offering their own.

How To Use Them Safely

Safety is a key concern when you’re investing in a fire pit.

A couple of key things to remember:

  • Never start a fire with petrol or lighter fluid.
  • Make sure the fire pit is in a clear space – the recommendation is that it’s at least 2m away from anything flammable, on all sides.
  • If your fire pit doesn’t include a cover, it’s worth investing in one to keep yourself protected from any stray sparks.
  • And – this goes without saying – never leave the fire pit unattended.

What’s the difference between a fire pit and a chiminea?

Typically, a fire pit gives you a 360-degree view of the flames, and is an open pit.

A chiminea usually has a bulbous shape and a small window with a chimney.

Chimineas tend to be less smokey since they enclose the fire, as opposed to fire pits, which have an open flame.
