BARGAIN shop B&M will close all of its stores on New Year’s Day to give its workers a break.
Classed as an essential retailer, B&M has remained open throughout the coronavirus crisis to help feed the nation.

In recognition of its staff members’ efforts, the retailer will shut all stores on the first day of January for the first time ever.
But B&M shops will still stay open during all other Christmas days including Boxing Day, unlike its rivals Home Bargains and Aldi.
The Entertainer, Wickes, M&S and Pets at Home have also announced they’ll remain shut on Boxing Day.
B&M wrote on Twitter: “To give our colleagues a well-deserved rest, all B&M stores will be closed on January 1st.
“We hope 2021 is a great year for all of our colleagues, their families and all B&M shoppers.”
B&M hasn’t yet confirmed to The Sun whether workers will be paid for January 1 nor whether it comes of out of their annual leave, so we’ll update this article once we hear back.
Although many appreciated the gesture, fans of B&M also wanted the retailer to shut stores on Boxing Day too.
One Twitter user asked: “Can we have Boxing Day too plzzzzzzz?”
While another added: “I would like to see ALL retailers work together and close stores on Boxing Day.
“Families only have a few days to be together this year, let them have Christmas off and enjoy their time with loved ones!!!”
And a third one said: “Let them be off boxing day too that be great and hopefully all other big stores do the same.
“They been working throughout the pandemic and have received no recognition for it [sic].”

A wide range of retailers have extended their opening hours in the run-up to Christmas including Boots, Primark and Aldi.
It comes as the government has confirmed shops can stay open longer in December with a 24 hours option to boost retail.
When Primark reopened after lockdown on December 2, keen shoppers queued in the dark from 5am.
