He wrote: “Bargain of the year – was last one on the shelf and the box looked like it had seen better days so I gave it a scan and it came up as £1 at a B&M in South Wales.

“I’m guessing these have been discontinued and not all stores carry the same stock but it’s always worth using the scanner when you’re in store as that’s the best way to find hidden sales.”

And people commented on the post praising the find.

One said: “Amazing, well done”.

While another said: “This was so lucky. Enjoy.”

The sideboard was originally being sold for £199, but he got it for £1, saving him £198 altogether.

Unfortunately, the item is being discontinued and isn’t available online.

If you’re lucky, you be able to find it in store still so it’s always worth checking.

But there are many other items that you’ll be able to find for much less than what they’re being sold at.

For example, B&M shoppers were also rushing to buy a kitchen essential that scans as 99% off.

The discount store was selling a three-piece glass canister set for just 10p – down from £9.99.

While Asda customers found a vacuum cleaner that was going for nearly half the price it was advertised at.

If you’re wanting to find an item that is going for less than its being advertised as but don’t know where to start, here are four ways to find items that scan at the till for less.

How can I save money with the B&M scanner app?

The shopper found the item using the B&M scanner app

The B&M barcode scanner app allows you to discover discounted items before the staff has even reduced them.

The scanner is located on the B&M Stores mobile app, which can be downloaded for free on your smartphone.

Shoppers can download it on the App Store or Google Play.

Once you’ve got the app, click on the “scan” button at the bottom of your homepage.

This will then bring up the camera on your smartphone, which you’ll need to use to scan barcodes.

When you’ve found a product you want to scan, simply point your smartphone camera toward its barcode.

The app will then automatically bring up the item’s price – this is when you’ll know if it is reduced or not.

Bargain hunters say some items come up as £1, 50p or even 10p through the app.

How else can I cut my shopping?

Research what you need before you go.

Prices always vary and it can pay to change up your shop if you’re looking for a particular item, like children’s clothes, look at what stores are offering what.

One shopper ditched going to supermarkets altogether in favour of their local wholesaler, that way they could stock up in bulk, at lower prices.

For food shopping, you can also cash in on reduced foods like yellow sticker bargains – these will be items reduced because they’re about to meet their best-before date.

They’ll still be safe to eat or freeze to make them last longer, but it means you can pick up the same products at an even cheaper price.

If you’re really ahead of the game then you could also buy winter clothes in summer and vie versa.

More often than not, retailers put the clothes people won’t be wearing at the time up for sale – like winter coats in the summer.
