Eager fans of the discount retailer spotted the sale at one store that is shutting its doors for good this week before relocating to another location.

B&M had previously announced its Widnes branch will be relocating today (May 17).

News of the closing down sale has been shared on social media with shoppers itching to get their hands on some bargains.

One woman posted online: “Everything half price at the Widnes B&M as they are moving.. the best day of my life.”

Fellow bargain hunters commented on the post, keen for details on the sale.

One wrote: “Oh don’t my bank would of been broke by now.”

Another said “hope you got some bargains”, to which the woman confirmed she “definitely” did.

Others were keen to know how long the sale – which ends today before closing – was on for.

The savvy shopper revealed that while a lot of the stock had been snapped up, there’s still a selection to choose from including food and “bits and bobs”.

But if you’re thinking of heading down today you’d best be quick, it might also be worth calling ahead to see what’s left.

We couldn’t find exact examples of the discount deals people managed to find, but in the past B&M shoppers have picked up items for as little as 10p.

In a statement posted to its website, B&M said: “Your B&M Widnes store is moving from its current location at Bowers Retail Park, to its new home at Widnes Trade Park (former The Range).

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused while we bring you a bigger and better B&M store.”

The new shop is set to open on Saturday, May 20.

If you can’t wait until then though there are other shops near by you can visit including: Runcorn – Bridge Retail Park and Liverpool – Speke.

It’s not the first time that B&M has hosted the major discounts before closing down stores.

A few weeks ago shoppers bagged “absolutely unreal” savings in the Bishop Auckland stores’ closing down sale.

When its Newport shop closed in Wales back in February, it hosted a huge 75% off sale before shutting up shop.

There were similar discounts at a B&M store located in Rugby’s Clock Towers Shopping Centre when it closed in 2021.

And before that shoppers from Slough benefitted from a similar price cut frenzy as a separate closing down sale took affect at a B&M store in the area.

The Widnes closure comes following several shops shutting and relocating this year:

  • Castlegate Shopping Centre, Stockton – Feb 25
  • Maesglas Retail Park, Newport, Wales – March 4
  • Boucher Road, Belfast – March 26
  • Queens Drive Retail Park, Kilmarnock – March 26
  • Broadwalk Shopping Centre, Bristol – March 29
  • Bishop Auckland, Durham – May 5
  • Burnden Retail Park store in Bolton – May 24

It’s not all bad news though because the discount chain is set to open even more shops this year, as well as fresh relocations.

There are four cutting the ribbon this month:

  • Widnes Trade Park – Saturday, May 20
  • Fforestfach (Swansea) – Friday, May 26
  • Jarrow (major refit) – Saturday, May 27 – re-launch
  • Fazakerley – Wednesday, May 31

How can I save money at B&M?

While a closing down sale offers big discounts on already bargain prices, there are still ways to save at B&M every other day too.

The B&M barcode scanner app allows you to discover discounted items before the staff have even reduced them.

The scanner is located on the B&M Stores mobile app, which can be downloaded for free on your smartphone.

Shoppers can download it on the App Store or Google Play.

Once you’ve got the app, click on the “scan” button at the bottom of your homepage.

This will then bring up the camera on your smartphone, which you’ll need to use to scan barcodes.

When you’ve found a product you want to scan, simply point your smartphone camera toward its barcode.

The app will then automatically bring up the item’s price – this is when you’ll know if it is reduced or not.

Bargain hunters say some items come up as £1, 50p or even 10p through the app.

Shoppers should also keep an eye out for products with a white reduction sticker on.

This means they will have a certain amount slashed off the price shown on the label.
