B&M, Home Bargains and M&S have all confirmed they WON’T be doing Black Friday sales this year in a blow for shoppers.
Quite a few retailers decided not to take part in the mega-sale event every year in stark contrast to rivals who sometimes roll out discounts three weeks ahead of the date.
Black Friday, which falls on November 24 in 2023, is considered one of the biggest shopping days of the year – but not all retailers take part.
Next hasn’t confirmed they will be having a Black Friday sale this year but there are no promotions advertised on its website so far.
The decision to back out of Black Friday means shoppers won’t be able to get cut-price clothes and homeware this year.
In previous years, Next’s notorious sales have people queuing from as early as 6am, with savings of up to 70% off.
What is Black Friday?
BLACK Friday is one of the busiest days in the retail calendar and typically marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping period.
Stores will often launch huge sales to get customers spending, with some even opening as early as 6am to accommodate bargain hunters.
Black Friday began in the US, but in recent years has also become an annual fixture in the UK and elsewhere.
In the UK, some stores open as early as 6am to accommodate bargain hunters.
But for online shoppers, deals can start from midnight onwards.
Black Friday falls on the Friday after the annual US holiday of Thanksgiving, which is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of each November.
This year, Black Friday is on November 24.
Meanwhile, B&M has also decided to skip Black Friday this year in favour of “everyday low prices” throughout the Christmas shopping season.
A spokesperson told The Sun: “B&M is an everyday low-priced retailer that focuses on selling products for the best prices all year round. So we don’t have a Black Friday promotions sale.”
In a similar move, M&S has also said it won’t take part in Black Friday this year to focus on “great value” throughout the whole season.
The posh retailer told The Sun: “Whilst we don’t participate in Black Friday, we have a selection of unmissable offers in-store and online.”
