WHATSAPP users will soon be able to access Meta’s AI chatbot inside their inbox as part of an upcoming app update.

It follows picture-messenger app Snapchat introducing its own My AI chatbot in February last year, and the roaring success of ChatGPT.

Meta’s AI chatbot is currently usable in a beta version of WhatsApp in two different ways, according to WABetaInfo.

WhatsApp users will be able to strike up a conversation with the chatbot either in the Chats tab, or by searching for Meta AI in their contacts.

Meta – the company behind WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram – has yet to fully outline what the AI bot will offer consumers inside the messenger.

But users should be able to use all of Meta AI’s current capabilities, which include answering questions like ChatGPT, and holding conversations like Snapchat’s My AI.

It even has the ability to generate high-quality photorealistic images in your chat for free.

When Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the ChatGPT-rival in September last year, is was debuted as a chatbot that could also work as your assistant.

Users could also invite the chatbot into their group chats.

This means you’ll be able use the AI as a group assistant with your pals.

“The majority of the conversations that happen in our messaging apps are between people and their close friends, or people and their family, or people and their partners,” Chris Cox, Chief Product Officer at Meta told reporters at Meta Connect last year.

“So that’s the meat and potatoes of what the product is for.

“Frequently for me, you’re often planning. Like if you are in a new city, if you’re planning to meet up, if you’re trying to find a place to eat, if you’ve just arrived to a conference, you wanna find a place to get a coffee.

“A lot of that is happening in a messaging thread.

“And what we’re trying to do here is remove the part where you’re hopping back and forth.”

There is little information on when the feature will land in WhatsApp.

However, it is widely expected to roll out sometime this year.
