EXPERTS have shared tips on how to avoid spam emails flooding your inbox.
No matter what email server you use, spam is a growing problem for your inbox.
Spam email is described as unsolicited junk email sent out to a random recipient list.
Typically, spam is sent for commercial purposes, but sometimes it can contain harmful malware that can steal your sensitive data and money.
Ariana Bago, a Fraud Analyst from Proxyrack recently commented on the problem, sharing both signs and tips to help avoid spam emails.
“There are many different keywords and signs to note in spam emails,” Bago said.
“For example, if you’re addressed with an unfamiliar greeting i.e. your last name,” she added.
Multiple grammar errors and misspelled words are other red flags that point to spam mail.
Finally, “inconsistency with email addresses, suspicious attachments, requests for login and specific details, and any urgent action demands,” are huge indications, Bago said.
HOW TO STOP SPAM
Bago advised that “when you receive unwanted and spam emails the best steps to take in most cases are to report them as spam and block them.”

Another step you can take is to change your privacy settings on your email.
“You should also make sure you’re unsubscribed from any legitimate newsletters and emails you do not want to receive, but avoid unsubscribing from spam emails, as in some cases these could be suspicious links and trigger more spam emails,” Bago said.
“If the spam becomes unmanageable, an easier solution is to create a new (secondary) email address for all important emails,” she added.
To reduce the number of spam mail you get, Bago suggests setting up email filters to redirect spam to another folder.
“These filters evaluate an incoming email using a variety of criteria, searching for common trigger words to prevent them from reaching your mailbox,” Bago explained.
To install these filters on Gmail, go to your settings > Filters and Blocked Addresses tab > click Create a new filter.
Users also have the option to automatically delete these emails by selecting “delete the message.”
“Another way to address this situation is to always mark spam emails as spam,” Bago said.
“Email services come with ‘Report scam’ or ‘Mark as Junk’ buttons, one click tells your provider which emails you don’t want to receive.”
