According to 9to5Google, the firm is working on such a change for sites that use HTTP.

HTTP web addresses are considered less secure compared to HTTPS which is more widely used these days.

It applies encryption and verification to protect users.

Google has already started alerting people when they’re on an insecure HTTP website with a small notification in the address bar.

This new move would take things a step further, stopping people from downloading off HTTP sites as well.

However, like many of these protections that are already in place you will be able to bypass the block if you’re sure it’s safe.

Nerds found special code indicating the feature is coming.

It reads: “Enables insecure download blocking.

“This shows a ‘blocked’ message if the user attempts to download a file over an insecure transport (e.g. HTTP) either directly or via an insecure redirect.”

But it’s still very early days.

Beta users are expecting to start testing it on Chrome version 111.

That’s not due until March 2023.

The general public will have to wait until later in the year when it’s been fully tested and built.
