Britt will argue during her State of the Union response that the GOP is the party of parents and families, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The source pointed to Britt being a mom of school-age children as effective in getting that message across.

Britt’s team hopes to emphasize what it termed the “relatability gap” between Biden and the 42-year-old senator.

“Every week, she runs carpool and pushes a grocery cart and goes to pump gas,” the source said. “And when’s the last time the president has done any of those things?”

Her team also believes that Britt’s lived experiences will resonate with Americans’, arguing that her response will take a conversational approach, rather than that of a stuffy politician giving a formal speech.

The senator has been outspoken in her support for IVF, and she is expected to address the IVF controversy stemming from her home state after an Alabama Supreme Court decision led to IVF providers pausing services.

When discussing what success looks like, the source pointed to “prosecuting the case against President Biden’s record.”

“I think inherently his State of the Union address in this election year is a political tool to make the argument why he deserves in his mind four more years,” the source said. “I think our role is to prosecute the case. Why he should not get four more years.”

Britt was unveiled as the Republican delivering the party’s response one week ago.

The source said when Speaker Mike Johnson discussed the speech with Britt, he said the party needed a “kind of shining city on a hill, Reaganesque Republican.”

“That person who can bring not only strength, but optimism for the future,” the source recalled the speaker saying. “And you’re somebody who I think can deliver that message.”
