The parlour and cafe will permanently close at the end of September despite Jenny wanting to find a way to keep it open.

“I haven’t really had much choice to close the doors as my health isn’t the best and I’m struggling to work full-time,” she told the Hexham Courant.

Jenny’s son was helping her keep Molly Moos afloat, but he is starting a graduate job later this year.

She described how her own savings have run out and she felt the business would run into difficulty in the winter.

Jenny continued: “I needed to be working full-time to put money away for winter to survive as last winter was absolutely awful with the footfall in Hexham in colder weather being almost non-existent and then being seasonal on top.

“Our profit margins have always been low and with low-value sales, we have relied on being busy to keep going but unfortunately with such small margins, there is little scope for maneuver, and as the cost of living has bitten harder, and harder.”

Jenny attempted to sell the ice cream parlour a few months ago, however to no avail.

She claimed the building works in Hexham, especially next door, was the “nail in the coffin”.
