BBC makes change that can actually SAVE you money on electricity bills

THE BBC has introduced new energy saving slates to its radio channel on TV that’ll helps fans save money on their monthly bills.

It comes more than 12-months after household energy receipts started to spiral in April last year.

The broadcaster has been looking at ways to reduce energy, RXTV Info reported.

Modern TV sets now have in-built energy saving mechanisms.

But the BBC wanted to see if changes to on-screen graphics could cut down energy use.

The BBC’s research and development team, headed by Colin Warhurst, found that the creation of new “Lower Carbon Graphics” or LCGfx that reduce areas of very vibrant colour mean your TV can use up to 64 per cent less energy.

Your energy savings will depend on what kind of TV you have.

But here’s a breakdown:

64 per cent on OLED
47 per cent on FALD
22 per cent on Direct LED

Speaking of the roll out of the new technology on BBC Radio, Warhurst said: “We were incredibly moved in that moment, knowing that from very the moment of switch-on, the graphics were instantly saving energy in potentially millions of homes – in fact, anywhere a TV was being used to listen to BBC radio.”

The BBC is now working with BT to develop LCGfx ‘bars and tone’ graphics, commonly used by broadcasters throughout Europe.
