THOUSANDS of Barclays customers have struggled to get into their accounts this morning after the bank’s online banking and app services crashed.

According to complaints tracker Downdetector, nearly 2,000 people were unable to log into their accounts, with issues starting around 6am.

Barclays app and online banking services were down for thousands of Brits this morning

Areas that appear to be most affected are London and Plymouth, with other cities like Manchester, Birmingham and Nottingham hit too.

Around 65% complaints are down to problems with mobile banking services, 29% are due to online banking services, and 6% are concerning issues with seeing account balances.

Customers took to Twitter to complain about issues getting into their accounts to make payments and see their balance.

One customer said: “Barclays is there a problem with online banking can’t see my account??”

Another said: “Barclays what is wrong with your app this morning?”

Other customers claimed they couldn’t see their accounts at all when they could log in.

“Is there an issue with the app? My accounts have disappeared,” one person said.

While another tweeted: “Is anyone else’s Barclays app down?? Can’t see any of my accounts when I open the app?”

The Sun has contacted Barclays for more information.

There’s no automatic right to compensation if there’s a service failure at your bank.

But you could get money back in some circumstances, depending on how an outage has affected you.

It is worth gathering evidence of your problems so you can make a formal complaint to Barclays.

Try to make a note of when you were unable to access the website or app, plus any costs you incurred as a result.

If your credit rating has been affected by a service outage, because you got a late payment fee after being unable to make a transaction, for example, you should also keep a record of this.

It’s not the first bank crash that has hit Brits this week.

On Monday, HSBC and NatWest both went down for thousands of customers.

How can I check if Barclays is down?

Barclays has a dedicated page on its website which shows if any services are affected, including both the Barclays and Barclaycard apps, websites and telephone and online banking.

You can also check websites such as Down Detector, which will tell you whether other people are experiencing problems with a particular company online.

Barclays provides banking and savings services, while Barclaycard is a brand for credit cards by Barclays.

It’s also a good idea to check social media too – head to Barclay’s Twitter page where it might release more details about the problem.
