Asda is launching its first convenience stores as the battle between supermarkets to win business steps up.
The grocer, the third biggest in the UK behind Tesco and Sainsbury’s, will open two stores under the Asda Express name before Christmas.
The site in Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands will open next month before one in Tottenham Hale in London in December.

A further 30 Asda Express stores will open next year. The stores will stock more than 3,000 products and create around 500 jobs.
Britons, meanwhile, are swapping fresh food for cheaper, frozen items to save cash amid the mounting cost of living crisis.
Data firm Nielsen IQ said sales of fresh produce fell 8.3 per cent in the month to October 8 while sales of meat, fish and poultry fell 8 per cent as shoppers squeeze their budgets.
The market researcher said Asda was the fastest-growing among Britain’s biggest supermarkets in the past three months thanks to the success of its new value range.
