ASDA shoppers are rushing to buy a kitchen essential that scans at 82% off.

The supermarket giant’s Just Essentials washing power is “just as good” as the powder offered by bigger brands, according to shoppers.

Washing powder is a cheaper alternative to laundry tablets and capsules.

Shoppers can usually expect to pay between £2.60 and £34 according to data on the supermarket price comparison website Trolley.co.uk, depending on the size and brand you go for.

But a savvy shopper picked up a box of Asda’s Just Essentials Bio Washing Powder for just 59p.

Posting on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Facebook page the shopper said: “Asda 59p – yep 59p for 45 washes – in the reduced section in the Coatbridge store.”

One shopper said in response to the find: “I use the non-bio of this. Works better than most branded ones I have used.”

“I’ve used this for about 6 months now with my normal Lenor conditioner and I love it! I notice no difference to my Surf powder at all,” said another.

The total price of the 2.83kg box of powder leaves shoppers spending just 20p per kg.

But the discounted boxes of washing powder are only in-store and shoppers will need to be quick while stocks last.

You can find your closest Asda using the store locator tool on its website.

You should always have a quick shop around first as you might be able to find a similar product cheaper elsewhere.

Prices vary by brand, size and retailer so it’s worth having a browse elsewhere before you make a decision.

Use price comparison tools like Google Shopping to find similar products from other retailers and compare prices.

Asda’s Just Essential Bio powder is the cheapest we’ve seen but keep an eye out for new deals popping up.

While everyone compares the total cost of items to get the best deal – many are still caught out by not paying attention to the unit costs.

Unit prices are meant to make it easier for shoppers to compare similar items of different sizes.

You should be able to see the unit cost of the product where its price is shown – it may be in small print.

These make it easier to check if you’re getting good value for money – especially if you’re buying things like washing powder which comes in a wide variety of sizes.

Bigger boxes of powder often charge less per kg than smaller boxes – and while the overall cost is higher it’ll get through way more washes.

Morrisons and Tesco’s largest boxes of powders cost £1.60 per kg while the same boxes at Sainsbury’s set shoppers back £2.30 per kg.

Always remember that these bargains are only a good deal if you need washing powder in the first place – if you get it just because of the offer, you aren’t necessarily saving money.
