Asda shopper left ‘fuming’ after buying mince pies – and realising not all was as it seemed

AN Asda shopper was left fuming by the size of his mince pies after finding they were much smaller than the packaging they came in.

Liam Smith bought a pack of four ‘Baker’s Selection’ mince pies from Asda’s Reddish store in Stockport, Greater Manchester.

But when he went to offer them up for a family get together, he found the treats were a fraction of the size of their plastic packaging.

Sharing an image of the festive snacks on Twitter, Liam wrote: “Don’t know why I still visit Asda.

“Here thinking I was getting some deep filled mince pie.

“Not only poor quality but packaging waste of plastic.”

The disgruntled customer later added: “Boris Johnson hasn’t ruined Christmas this time it was Asda and their half a mince pie.”

Liam told Manchester Evening News that aside from the size of the mince pie, it was the ‘unnecessary’ amount of plastic used that shocked him most.

“I was amazed how small they were and how poor they were,” he said.

“The mince pie was one third the size of the packaging.

“As we’re all trying to reduce our plastic usage this just seems
unnecessary and a waste of plastic.”

Rival supermarket Sainsbury’s replied to Liam’s original tweet, offering to help.

And Liam said it was “amazing Sainsbury’s has been in touch”.

He added: “I’ve had no response from Asda at all.”

The Sun Online understands the mince pies were pictured in the wrong packaging and it is not usually used for the Baker’s Selection treats.

Asda declined to comment.
