Are zoos open on the May Bank Holiday 2023?

The London Zoo, Regent’s Park

The London Zoo is one of the oldest zoos in England after opening in 1828.

It is one of the favourite tourist spots for visitors and Londoners to visit in London.

Animal lovers will be able to visit London Zoo over the May Bank Holiday from 10 am to 6 pm.

You certainly won’t get bored as there are more than 19,000 different animals at London Zoo.

The park is open every day except for Christmas Day, however it is advised to check their website for any changes in opening times to avoid disappointment.

Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo will be opened between 10 am and 5:30 pm on May 1, 2023.

The venue covers about 125 acres of land and there are about 400 species of animals there.

There are boat trips available at Chester Zoo, meaning that visitors can watch the animals in their habitats at the same time.

The park also has a special event on May Day from 11:30 am until 3:30 pm.

The park is offering a whole day of free activities and expert talks at their nature reserve for City Nature Challenge.

Whipsnade Zoo

Whipsnade Zoo is the biggest zoo in England and covers 600 acres of land.

It is famous for having the largest collection of wildlife of all the zoos in England.

It will be open between 10am-6pm over the May Bank Holidays with last entry into the park at 5 pm.

Longleat Safari Park

Longleat Safari and Adventure Park is one of the oldest zoos in England.

Longleat was the first Safari Park to open outside of Africa in 1966.

It will open between 10am-7pm on all the May Bank Holidays.

Last entry into the park is at 4 pm.

Edinburgh Zoo

Edinburgh Zoo was the first zoo in the world to house and to breed penguins as well as being the only zoo in Britain to house Queensland koalas and giant pandas.

It is based on 82-acres of land and receives more than 600,000 visitors each year.

If you plan to visit this May Day, the park is open between 10 am and 6 pm from April to October.

The park’s only planned closure is Christmas Day.

Colchester Zoo

Colchester Zoo, which is based in Essex, is a fun day out for people of all ages to enjoy.

It is smaller than some other zoos, being based on 60 acres of land.

It is home to many rare and endangered species, including big cats, primates and birds as well as many invertebrates and fish.

Over the May Bank Holiday the park will be open at 9:30 am. Closing time varies, these are:

  • Monday to Friday Term time: 5.00pm close. Earliest closing time of 4.30pm
  • Weekends and school holidays: 5.30pm close. Earliest closing time of 5.00pm
