NANDO’S have the popular bottomless drinks offer, which allows customers to refill their soft drinks for how many times they want.

Customers simply have to pay between £3.25 and £3.45 and get as much as they want of their chosen drink, although that is all about to change.

Are Nando’s banning bottomless drinks?

From October 2022, Nando’s will no longer be able to offer refills of Coca-Cola.

Diners will still be able to get refills of Diet Coke and Coke Zero.

Why are Nando’s banning Coca-Cola Classic bottomless drinks?

The Government is implementing new legislation which prohibits the free refills of high sugar drinks.

It will come into force on October 1 as part of its strategy to “tackle obesity and get the nation fit and healthy.”

It targets the sale of products that are high in fat, salt or sugar (HFSS).

A Nando’s spokesperson said: “We will change our Classic Coke proposition in line with the HFSS Government legislation due to come in October 2022, all lower sugar and zero sugar drinks are not affected.”

Have any other restaurants banned bottomless drinks?

Public Health Minister Jo Churchill explained that the six months leading up to October will give “businesses enough time to prepare.”

Ms Churchill added: “The Covid-19 pandemic has brought into sharp focus the impact that an unhealthy weight can have on people’s health.

“We know families want the healthy choice to be the easy choice, and restricting promotions on unhealthy foods will help them achieve this.

“We want to support everyone to eat healthier foods more regularly and this starts with helping supermarkets and manufacturers promote healthier food choices which are lower or free from [fat, salt and sugar] to support families to make healthier choices.

“These restrictions will come into force from October 2022.

“I look forward to working together with everyone to ensure that for families a healthy option is the easy option when shopping.”

Meanwhile, restaurant chains such as Pizza Hut and TGI Fridays already scrapped free fizzy drinks refills.

The announcement was made in 2017 and came into action in March 2018.

So far, other restaurants have not made any announcements but chains such as Toby Carvery, Five Guys, Burger King and Harvester will have to ban their free refills too.
