YOUR iPhone has an option to put a caller on hold – and you might even be able to play a funky tune for them too.

It’s not an obvious feature – but it’s an important one to learn.

There's a hidden button on your iPhone's call interface

Apple has hidden the tool inside the call display of the iPhone app.

The trick was shared by TikTok creator @appledsign, who regularly hands out iPhone hacks on the app.

His video has earned thousands of likes already, despite being shared less than a day ago.

First, join a call with someone.

And then when you’re ready to put the person on hold, long press on the Mute button.

Keep pressing it until the icon changes to Hold.

Now that person can’t hear you (and you can’t hear them) until you deselect Hold.

The bad news is that you might not get call centre music – it depends on your carrier.

At present, Apple doesn’t offer a way for you to select your own tune.

But some network carriers do, so you might find you already have a catchy melody instead of a dull beep.

Try calling a friend and putting them on hold to check.

And some carriers offer music as a premium upgrade for your plan, so it may be worth checking with your network.

Nevertheless, it’s possible to put someone on hold regardless of the music.

One more thing…

That’s not the only musical iPhone trick in iOS.

There’s a handy hack that works using music-identification tool Shazam, which was actually bought by Apple.

You can add a quick shortcut to Apple Music recognition in your Control Centre.

That makes it much easier to quickly access.

All you need to do is going into Settings > Control Centre and then add Music Recognition at the bottom of the list.

Then when you swipe into your Control Centre (by pulling down from the top-right of the phone) you can quickly access it.

Simply tap the Shazam symbol – which looks like an S – and you’re away.

This can quickly identify TikTok songs that haven’t been named.

And it can also discover songs that are playing near you in the real world too.
