This can make sound and music appear muffled or even introduce harmful bacteria to your ears.

For these reasons, it’s important for music lovers to clean their headphones every once in a while.

To help users with this, Apple has shared a few handy tips that can help you clean your headphones.

WHAT TO DO

To clean your AirPods, Apple recommends using a soft, dry, lint-free cloth or a clean cotton bud.

“Wipe them clean with a cloth slightly dampened with fresh water and dry with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth,” Apple said.

If necessary, users can also slightly dampen the cloth with isopropyl alcohol to disinfect their headphones.

“Clean the microphone and speaker meshes with a dry cotton swab,” Apple added.

Allow them to completely dry before placing them in the charging case.

WHAT NOT TO DO

Apple also shared what not to do with AirPods users.

The first tip is to not use sharp or abrasive objects to remove gunk from the headphones as this can cause damage.

They also implored users to never run their headphones under running water.

“Your AirPods aren’t waterproof or water-resistant, so be careful not to get moisture in any openings,” Apple warned.

“If your AirPods come in contact with liquid, including sweat from a workout, wipe them down with a dry microfiber cloth,” the company added.

“To dry the case, place it upside down with the lid open.”

Users should avoid putting anything in the charging ports as this could damage the metal contacts.
