POUNDLAND has joined the food fight with Marks & Spencer by bringing out its own version of Colin The Caterpillar.
The budget chain’s chocolate-covered bug cake is called Chris — and at £4.50 it’s half the price of the £9 M&S favourite.
In a boost for cash-strapped shoppers, it it the cheapest cake of its kind on the market — even beating Aldi’s Cuthbert The Caterpillar, which costs £5.59.
Bosses at Poundland’s store in Barry, South Wales, announced Chris’ launch on the branch’s Facebook page.
One excited customer replied: “Love it!”
Another Poundland shopper said: “Colin and Cuthbert The Caterpillar move over…
“Introducing Chris The Caterpillar from Poundland.”
Like M&S’ Colin, Chris has facial features and chocolate Smarties-style sweets on its back.
Poundland describes it as a “chocolate sponge cake with vanilla flavoured filling and chocolate flavoured coating”.
Tesco and Sainsbury’s own versions – Slinky and Wiggles — are currently £7 each.
