A HUGE beauty chain has confirmed it will shut one of its branches for good in just weeks as shoppers cry “another one bites the dust”.

Despite having over 500 branches, Superdrug made the sad decision to close one of their beloved pharmacies at the end of February.

The Superdrug Rochdale Pharmacy inside the Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre on Market Way is the latest closure.

Superdrug released a statement on the closure saying: “Superdrug Rochdale Pharmacy will be closed from the 24th February 2024.

“Supporting people’s healthcare needs is always our priority and our pharmacy team is proactively informing patients coming into the Rochdale pharmacy of its closure along with providing them with the option to register with Superdrug’s online pharmacy for convenient and free deliveries.”

Devastated Rochdale locals took to Facebook to react to the saddening news.

One wrote: “I heard today that Superdrug Pharmacy is closing end of Feb. Another one bites the dust.”

The Superdrug store has long been known as a great place for shoppers looking to get expert advice and products.

One person left a review online saying: “Great place, friendly staff and great service, great choice of products and great bargains.”

A second put: “Very good prices and some unique products which work better for me than anything I’ve ever tried.”

Luckily however, Rochdale locals still have a second Superdrug store to visit not too far away inside the Riverside Retail & Leisure centre.

Last year, Superdrug closed down stores all across the UK.

The Superdrug in Bromsgrove shut its doors on November 18, 2023.

While another shop in Llanelli, Wales, shut their shutters in early December as a third store in Newbury followed suit.

It’s not all bad news though as Superdrug – known for its vast array of health and beauty products – announced plans to open dozens of new stores set to create 570 jobs.

The chain is set to open 25 new stores as part of a huge expansion plan across the next year.

It also announced plans to renovate 70 of its current stores this year.

Superdrug was purchased by A.S. Watson Group, the world’s largest international health and beauty retailer, in 2002.

Other UK brands owned by the group include Savers and The Perfume Shop.

The Sun also revealed a list of all the major shops and chains closing dozens of branches in February in a huge blow to shoppers.

Boots, Lidl and WHSmith are among the retailers shutting sites in the coming weeks.

Rochdale has also recently heard that their last Barclays branch is set to leave the town – leaving the closest banks being in Bury, Oldham or Manchester.

The Rochdale town centre branch of the bank will close permanently on 18 April, one year after Barclays closed another branch in Heywood.

It comes after retailers saw the amount of goods they sold drop over Christmas at its fastest rate in three years piling more pressure on the sector.

Sales volumes dipped by 3.2% in December, data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) suggested.

This meant that December saw the biggest drop in sales for the retail sector since January 2021, when the country was still under Covid-19 restrictions.
