SHARING between Android devices is about to get a lot easier.

Since 2020, Google has had a Nearby Share feature so people can send photos and other files between Android devices.

Samsung – whose phones run off of Android – has its own version.

And so, sharing between Samsung and other Android devices hasn’t been as good as it could be despite essentially running off the same system.

However, all that is about to change as the two tech titans have announced they are working together to make the process smoother.

Not only will it make sharing between the two better but eventually PCs will benefit too.

Google says it and Samsung are “bringing the best of our sharing solutions together” to create a single Quick Share feature.

“We’ve integrated the experiences and created the best default, built-in option for peer-to-peer content sharing across all types of devices in the Android and Chromebook ecosystems,” the company announced from the CES conference in Las Vegas.

The pair are already working with PC manufacturers like LG to make the tool a pre-installed app on their Windows laptops.

“This means with a simple tap of the new Quick Share icon, you can see a list of available devices close by,” the firm continued.

“You remain in control of your privacy, and can choose in your phone’s settings who can discover your device and send files, whether it’s everyone, only your contacts or just your own devices.”

The revamped tool will start rolling out to eligible devices in February.

Fast Pair

Quick Share wasn’t the only big new feature Google had to talk about this week.

The company has revealed that it’s also expanding its Fair Pair support to more devices.

Fair Pair allows users to quickly find and connect to nearby gadgets via Bluetooth.

Next month, it’ll be expanded to Chromecast with Google TV.

More Google TV devices will follow later in the year.
