But thankfully, there are a few ways to retrieve those lost messages for both Android and iOS users.

CHECK RECENTLY DELETED

Many messaging apps and platforms have a built-in trash folder where deleted messages are temporarily stored.

iMessage, for example, stores deleted messages for 30 days before permanently removing them from a device.

So, before you get upset about a deleted message, check your app’s settings to see if it has a trash or recycle bin feature.

It’s important to note that not all messaging platforms have this feature, like Google Messages.

For Samsung phones, open Samsung’s stock messaging app and tap the 3-dot menu button.

Select Trash, find the text you deleted, long-press the text and press Restore All.

For iPhone, open the Messages app and in the Messages conversation list, tap Edit in the top-left corner.

Then tap Show Recently Deleted, select the conversations you want to restore, then tap Recover.

RESTORE A BACKUP

If you back up your device regularly, then chances are your deleted messages will be there.

This can be done through either app-specific backups or overall phone backups.

Experts do note that when doing this, your phone has to go through a factory reset.

However, for Samsung users, this is fortunately not the case thanks to its cloud settings.

To restore a backup, head into your settings on your device and follow the on-screen steps.

USE A THIRD-PARTY DATA RECOVERY APP

Sometimes using a third-party data recovery app is your best bet for restoring old messages.

This is especially helpful in cases when you don’t have a backup and the messages were permanently erased from “recently deleted.”

Third-party data recovery apps typically scan your phone’s storage for traces of deleted data, including text messages.

The method takes a long time, sometimes even hours, but can be worth it in the end.

However, it’s important to use caution with these apps, as some can be risky or ineffective.

It’s always best to opt for genuine recovery services and apps.
