American Airlines Group Inc. continued to cancel flights Sunday as it grappled with staffing shortages that disrupted travel for thousands of passengers.

The airline has canceled over 1,600 flights since Friday, including over 700 on Sunday—more than a quarter of its mainline schedule for the day, according to FlightAware, a flight tracking site. An airline spokeswoman said cancellations could continue Sunday, but the problems were likely to ease Monday.
