AMAZON has unveiled a new Prime membership plan that costs a third less than usual.

The online retailer had been rumoured to be looking at alternative schemes – and we’ve now got our first look at what it could look like.

But the savings in your wallet will mean some major perk sacrifices.

Amazon Prime Lite is only available in India at the moment but the launch gives us a taster of what could come in the UK, US and elsewhere in future.

One big change is that you’ll have to watch adverts on Prime Video.

This is the first time Amazon has had adverts on the streaming service, much like Netflix did last year in a bid to win over more viewers with a cheaper subscription.

Another limitation is that you can only stream in HD, not the best UHD.

It’s also only possible to watch Prime Video on the Android and iOS apps.

And you’re restricted to accessing the platform on just two devices at a time.

Amazon hasn’t confirmed whether it plans to launch such a slimed down plan in other countries yet.

But it gives us an idea of what it might look like should the firm decide to, amid reports Amazon is planning an ad-supported version of Prime Video.

Beyond Prime Video, Lite subscribers also face waiting longer for their orders to be delivered with a free two-day window.

You also lose access to Prime Music.

And there’s no Prime Reading included either.
