But when is it, and what discounts can bargain hunters expect? We explain what we know so far.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is an online sale the retail giant holds every year.

It was originally launched in 2015 to celebrate Amazon’s 20th birthday, but has since evolved into a cult-like sale a bit like Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

It lasts for two days, and only Amazon Prime members can access the deals.

Shoppers can snap up huge deals on Amazon’s own brand items or branded goods across a variety of departments, including tech, booze and clothing.

Some offers are available for the entire period of Amazon Prime Day, while “Lightning Deals” are only available for a limited time.

How can I get the deals?

To get involved in the two-day sales extravaganza, you must be an Amazon Prime member.

The premium membership also gets customers free next day delivery and access to Prime TV shows, eBooks and even live music events.

However, it costs £79 per year or £7.99 per month, depending on the payment plan you choose.

But there is a trick you can use to take advantage of the sale if you’re not currently a member.

Sign up for free to get a 30-day Amazon Prime trial here, and then cancel the membership before the trial is up.

Our tips for finding the best deals this Amazon Prime Day

IT might be tempting to dive in and snap up LOADS of items, but here’s how you can guarantee you’re getting a good deal on Amazon.

PREPARE Research the items you want to buy and find out the cheapest price. Websites like PriceSpy, PriceHistory and CamelCamelCamel will give you historical data on prices so you can see how much you should pay. You can also set up price alerts to let you know when the cost drops.

CHECK CAREFULLY Use FakeSpot to check whether the item is genuine or not. The site scans the reviews to see if they’re “reliable” or not so you can decide whther you trust the seller.

TRIAL IT FIRST Sign up to the 30 day Amazon Prime trial to take advantage of the Lightning Deals and free delivery. But remember to cancel the subscription before the trial is up or you’ll be charged the full £79.

SHOP NOW TO SAVE TIME Put the items you want in your basket ahead of Black Friday so that when the deals drop on October 13, all you’ll have to do is pay.

Make sure you remember to cancel the subscription though, otherwise you’ll be charged the full amount.

You can also get a heavily discounted student membership. There’s a six month free trial and then after that you’re charged £3.99 a month.

When does it start?

Amazon hasn’t confirmed exactly when Prime Day will start.

All we know is that it’s earmarked to take place before the end of June.

An Amazon spokesperson said: “We’ll share more details soon and customers can also say, ‘Alexa, keep me posted on Prime Day’ to stay informed.”

Last year’s Prime Day was pushed back to October 13 due to the Covid crisis, and ended at 11.59 on October 14.

What offers are running?

Amazon hasn’t confirmed exactly what offers are available during Prime Day, or what Lightning Deals shoppers should look out for.

But usually you can scoop deals on a range of items from gadgets to fancy toothbrushes.

Last year, one of the best bargains The Sun spotted was Amazon slashing the price of its cheapest Alexa speaker – the Echo Dot – from £49.99 to £18.99.

You could also take care of your pearly whites for less with an Oral-B Smart 6 6000N CrossAction Electric Toothbrush for just £54.99 – down from £219.99.

Other brands Prime members could get for less included Philips, Toshiba, Nescafé, Lego, Nintendo, Shark, Samsung, Under Armour, Sony and Le Creuset.

However, make sure to compare prices elsewhere when Amazon Prime Day finally hits.

You might find you can find the same – or similar – item cheaper at another shop.

Martin Lewis’ MoneySavingExpert has explained a little-known way to get 30% off Amazon items.

The online retailer is also selling a nifty gadget that can ease home internet issues for £35 less than its original price tag.

Here’s an easy way to get £5 Amazon credit – thanks to a web browser extension.
