Amazon has launched its first e-reader with a stylus for annotating books and PDFs and doodling in the margins.
Revealed at the annual Amazon launch event on Wednesday night, Kindle Scribe is the tech giant’s first Kindle to come with a stylus – a pen-like device with a tip.
The 0.22-inch thin e-reader has a 10.2-inch ‘glare-free’ display that ‘feels like real paper’, while the battery-free stylus, which magnetically attaches to the side of the device, lets users add handwritten notes to books and documents.
Kindle Scribe is now available for pre-order starting at £329.99, and is released November 20.
As well the Kindle Scribe, Amazon revealed multiple new devices at its September launch event, including a creepy sleep tracker and new Echo speakers.

The stylus is battery-free, so it never needs to be charged, while the e-reader itself lasts several weeks on a single charge, ‘making it an ideal, take-anywhere companion’.
Amazon said notes made on the Kindle Scribe are automatically saved and backed-up to the cloud for free, and, coming in early 2023, they will also be accessible via the Kindle app.
As with all Kindle e-readers, Kindle Scribe comes with access to the Kindle Store, which gives access to millions of books.
Also revealed by Amazon yesterday was a new bedside sleep tracker that doubles as an alarm clock, called Halo Rise.

Halo Rise uses non-contact sensors and artificial intelligence to measure a person’s movements and breathing patterns while they sleep.
It works by tracking room temperature, humidity and light, plus the breathing patterns of the person closest to it, with the goal of providing insight to why or why not the user had a good night’s rest.
Amazon stressed that information in the device will be kept safe – saying the ‘health data is encrypted in transit and at rest in the cloud’.
Also among the product announcements were four new Echo devices – updated versions of the spherical Echo Dot, Echo Dot with Clock and Echo Dot Kids, as well as the cylindrical Echo Studio.

Echo Dot/Echo Dot with Clock/Echo Dot Kids/Echo Studio
Amazon says its new generation Echo Dot (£54.99) and Echo Dot with Clock (£64.99) are ‘the most powerful yet’.
The devices have the highest excursion speaker of any Echo Dot, meaning sound travels further than before.
The devices deliver up to two times the bass in the same compact device size and the new sensors enable more contextual Alexa experiences.

Meanwhile, the Echo Dot Kids (£64.99) is available in two new fun designs – Owl and Dragon – and comes with a free suite of parental controls, two-year worry-free guarantee and one year of Amazon Kids+, the firm’s subscription service for children.

That’s apart from the cylinder-shaped Echo Studio, a bigger smart speaker that provides more advanced sound.
This new Echo Studio will have even more advanced audio thanks to new spatial audio processing technology and frequency range extension.
Fire TV Cube
Fire TV Cube combines an Alexa-powered speaker and a TV streaming box. This third generation of Fire TV Cube (£139.99) is 20 per cent more powerful than the previous generation, Amazon says.

Amazon also revealed a new £34.99 remote control, which can play music to help you locate it and customizable buttons
Fire TV Cube can be controlled entirely hands-free with Alexa and includes support for cinematic 4K Ultra HD, Dolby Vision, HDR and immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
Amazon also revealed a new £34.99 remote control, Alexa Voice Remote Pro, which can play music to help you locate it and customizable buttons, as well as two new home security cameras from its Ring subsidiary.
