It can be a right pain having your Fire Stick die on you with no back-up batteries around.

While the extra smartphone telly remote can certainly help smooth things out, it’s nice to know when you need to stock up on batteries.

If you’re curious to know your remote battery strength, you should follow these steps:

  • Go to Settings on your Fire Stick device
  • Click on Controllers and Bluetooth Devices
  • Now select Amazon Fire TV Remotes
  • On the right side, you can see your battery strength

NO REMOTE? NO PROBLEM

There’s a extra telly remote tucked away inside the official Amazon Fire TV app, that that you can download from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

You can turn your phone into an extra remote.

It gives you the ability to navigate your Fire Stick device, even if your physical remote is missing – or wedged between the sofa cushions.

You can use it as a keyboard and voice search.

After a couple of minutes of inactivity, a Fire Stick will start showing a screensaver.

You can give your living room a revamp by setting a new screensaver on your Amazon Fire TV.

There’s even an option to upload your own family images or custom photos to make your device little more ‘you’.

Here’s how to do it:

  • Install the Amazon Photos app on your smartphone
  • Sign in with your Amazon account
  • Click Back up Photos and Videos from the app
    • You can get up to 5GB of storage for free
  • Once done, open your Fire Stick Home and go to the Amazon Photos app (built-in on Fire Stick)
  • On the top menu of this app, go to Folders
  • You will find your pictures available in this folder click on that
  • Click any picture and press the 3 horizontal-line type button on your Fire Stick remote
  • Select ‘Set as Screensaver’
