WHATSAPP is making your conversations even more secure.
Get ready to say goodbye to snoops forever.
The feature lets you keep your most private conversations locked behind a password.
Locking a specific chat takes that thread out of the general inbox.
Instead, the chat sits inside a separate folder that can only be accessed via a password or a chosen biometric, such as finger print or face ID.
When someone messages you and you have that chat locked, the sender’s name and the content of the message will also be hidden.
This helps to avoid other people catching a glimpse of a secretive, message should the notification pop up when they’re using your phone.
The Chat Lock feature joins WhatsApp’s growing list of privacy features, such as end-to-end encryption, encrypted backups, disappearing messages, screenshot blocking, and controls over who can see when you were last online and more.
“New locked chats in WhatsApp make your conversations more private,” Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a Facebook post.
“They’re hidden in a password protected folder and notifications won’t show sender or message content.”

To enable the feature, simply tap the name of a one-to-one or group and selecting the lock option.
To unlock these chats, slowly pull down on your inbox and enter your phone password or biometric.
WhatsApp is set to add more options for Chat Lock in the coming months.
This will include locking chats for companion devices and creating a custom password.
Currently, you can only use your phone’s password to unlock the chats, be that a number code or biometric.
