NETFLIX has more than 200million subscribers and makes some of the world’s most popular TV shows.

Despite its gargantuan user base, the platform still has a trick or two up its sleeve in the form of handy but little-known features.

A number of little-known features and tools make it much easier to browse content and find your next favourite show.

The Sun has rounded up five of the very best to make navigating Netflix’s vast library that little bit easier.

Browse all Netflix originals

Over the years, Netflix has built up an impressive collection of original content for viewers to gorge on.

The list includes popular shows The Crown, Bridgerton and Stranger Things, as well as movies such as Don’t Look Up.

To browse all of the U.S. streaming giant’s originals, simply type “Netflix” into the search bar.

Find UHD (4K and HDR) content

Owning a telly that can play Ultra-HD (UHD) content is all well and good, but finding stuff at that resolution isn’t always easy.

Luckily, on Netflix, you can specifically browse its UHD content by typing “4K” or “HDR” in the search bar.

The platform will give you a full list of TV shows and movies available in 4K resolution and HDR, respectively.

Mystery button

The “Play Something” button lets Netflix choose what to watch for you.

It’s designed to save you the time-wasting agony of searching for something yourself.

Hit the button and the platform will throw up a series or film it thinks you’ll like based on what you’ve watched before.

You can find the Play Something button underneath your profile name after launching the app.

Browse by genre, phrase, city and more

You already know that you can hunt down stuff to watch on Netflix by searching the name of a show or your favourite actor.

But did you know that the platform’s algorithms can suggest shows and movies based on other, more obscure keywords?

For instance, you can search terms like “Olympics” or public figures like “Winston Churchill” to see content about that topic or person.

You can also narrow down your search to include certain cities or even phrases such as “Strong Black Lead” or “Strong Female Lead”.

To see other genres, click the row names on the homepage in your browser.

This will bring up a full gallery of TV shows and films within that genre.

Keyboard shortcuts

If you use Netflix on a PC or laptop, you can perform certain playback controls with the following shortcuts:

  • F will give you full screen; Esc will take you out of it
  • PgDn pauses, PgUp will play
  • The spacebar will also pause and play
  • Shift + Right Arrow will fast forward; Shift + Left Arrow will rewind
  • M should toggle your mute button, depending on your computer
  • Skip Intro: “Enter” key
  • Pause & Play: Space bar/enter
  • Skip 10 seconds: Left and Right arrow keys
  • Playstation only: Hitting the ‘start’ button on Playstation controllers while a title is selected plays the video directly, without viewing the detail page.
